Over the past few months that we have been offering Opti-Coat to our clients we have been asked quite frequently “Whats the difference between 2.0 and Pro?” Since we don’t produce, nor do we have any idea how to make it, it has been a difficult question to answer with a unsure tone of confidence, All we knew was the neither would wear away from washing or with the passing of time, Both would need to be polished to be removed. Most Detailing folks like us that don’t know how to produce these new ceramic coatings find ourselves just being parrots and repeating what we hear or read. Thanks to Chris Thomas who is an optimum Pro Coating Distributor from Tennessee, and was part of the testing team working with Opti-Coat Pro all the way back in 08 we are now able to answer such a complicated question. Whats the Difference?
Chris starts off by saying” Opti-Coat Pro offers more protection against a more varied array of chemicals and contaminants and is a much more concentrated formula.Due to the concentration Opti-Coat Pro will be much thicker which can take more damage without penetrating the paint system. The prepolymer resin used to create Opti-Coat Pro is also more Expensive and more complicated to manufacture. Opti-Coat Pro also ships with a special Primer Polish that Prepares the surface for the coating and is not available to non Pros. Not to knock Opti-Coat 2.0 By any means , but they are not the same at all.” Now the answer that Chris gave us actually answers the question “what’s the difference? but.. raises the Holy Grail of question “Why should I use a Opti-Coat Pro Installer instead of Joe’s 2.0 from down the street?” Will get back to that question in a moment. Chris continues.. “Opti-Coat Pro came first and Opti-Coat 2.0 is the newer product made specifically for the demand of a consumer version. Opti-Coat Pro used to be called “Opti Guard” before that name was set to distinguish the pro only interior coating.”

Back to the question “Why should I use a Opti-Coat Pro installer instead of Joe’s 2.0 from down the street?” PREPARATION!! without giving too much information on the preparation, this is what’s going to make all the difference in the longevity of your purchase. Ask your self this question today, 3, 5, 8 years down the line.. How do I know my car is still being protected? how do I know if the WHOLE car is protected and some parts have not fallen off? You see some areas are saturated with PRO installers so Joe needs to be placed on hold till a current installer becomes inactive. There are detailing websites or the “king of joe’s 2.0” that promote all over the U.S. but work from home somewhere in “Florida” and their job is to convince you he works in your area by promoting on his website your city, he schedule’s you in, find a “detailer” on Craigslist in your area and hires him to do the work. This detailer is taught over the phone or videos on how to apply the 2.0. the Website owner makes money and so does the detailer… Every one wins but you!!.
Chris makes another great point ” My opinion is that authorized Pros should offer both to fully capitalize both markets (entry-level 2.0 and Pro) and that those not authorized to sell the Pro coatings should be up front about Opti-Coat 2.0 to avoid confusing the public which makes the whole network look bad. We all depend on repeated business and this type of situation could cause distrust if opened to discussion after the sale”. Amen Chris!
